The Fairey Swordfish torpedo bomber was the aircraft to sink the mighty Bismarck in May of 1941.  By this time, the open cockpit biplane was massively outdated in comparison to other aircraft of the time but proved its worth in the sinking of one of the most formidible battleships of the time.
